A suivre !
Voilà en avant première Achilles Last Stand du 28/05/77 à Landover. Les chroniques annoncent une des meilleures versions possible de "Kashmir" lors de ce show !

Since EV tainted its name by releasing and recalling its title “Live At Madison Square Garden Working Tapes“ which turned out to be a fake based on Winston Remasters’ past work, many collectors are now skeptical as to the value of any title which the label subsequently releases. However, this new title is truly worthy for our collection and lives up to the traditional fame of the label. It features a newly surfaced “virtually complete” soundboard from the Landover show on 28 May 1977. Naturally, the overall nature of the soundboard is very similar to the soundboard from the show of two days before held at the same venue, as featured in EV's past title "Bringing The House Down." It is slightly muffled and compressed but still has a generally satisfying range and ambience. Especially, it captures the drum and bass sounds well. With this title, therefore, we can duly enjoy the supremacy of the rhythm sections of the band! At this show, the boys start a bit rough and dull but soon warm up. (You will notice that the tape itself is also brightened up in the middle of “Sick Again”.) For instance, they rendered a very solid magnificent version of “In My Time Of Dying”, followed by a slow but soulful version of “Since I've Been Loving You”. Robert, in an impromptu manner, even threw a reference to “Maryland” while singing the former tune. You will also hear a number of hilarious comments from Robert enjoying himself while the band is proceeding with its “acoustic” set. “Kashmir” is again consistently solid and gets even surprisingly inspired at the end, arguably resulting in one of the best-ever versions of the tune! Notably, Bonzo’s drum solo at the show is also very creative and enjoyable. As evidenced by such a great drum solo from Bonzo, “Achilles Last Stand” is now destined to be simply devastating. It is a pity that as it often happened, Jimmy again broke a guitar string at the end of his guitar solo of “Stairway To Heaven” at this show but the band still managed to play the tune in a gutsy and beautiful manner. The overall level of their performances at the show is above average from ’77 standard. The reason why the soundboard is claimed as “virtually complete” is that there are some small or relatively insubstantial gaps in it, which they had to fill with the inferior sounding audience recording (e.g., the beginning of Jonsey’s keyboard solo in “No Quarter”, from the middle of “Bron-Y-Aur Stomp” to the beginning of “White Summer-Black Mountain Side”, close to the end of Bonzo’s drum solo). The title comes in a thick paper case similar to the one used for some of EV’s past titles, such as “Bringing The House Down”, which looks better than a simpler packaging used for some other recent titles from the label. Well done, EV, for their release of another amazing newly find! I hope that they will continue releasing titles which would recover their damaged fame, such as this. (TH November 07)
