Review from U.U.
Yet another Earls Court DVD we raise our hands up and ask? A few years ago the release of a complete Earls Court on DVD would have fans wetting themselves, but we have become used to excellent versions before. This new verion from GM is well worth the wait however. The Empress Valley release Heavy Metal Kids (stupid title, but excellent release) set the benchmark for the complete Earls Court 24th May 1975 video. The one annoying feature was the EV logo in the bottom right of the picture, which really got on my wick. However one excused this when you saw the excellent picture quality and very good sound. This new version from GM does not have the irritating logo, ergo it is a different source and not a regurgitation. The picture quality is as good as the EV version (perhaps even a very small fraction better), but the sound is a considerable improvement. We now have the hallmark powerful sound from GM, with excellent bottom end, and excellent top end. This version needs to be played very loud, and when you do you are transported back to Earls Court to savour and enjoy an epic performance from the group. Therefore this release is an important one and soundwise an improvement to the EV release. It will only be surpassed when the so called "digimaster" for this night (and also a complete perfect quality 25th May) is released. They are both out there, but they are being retained with a very tight grip still. We all hope that they both see the light of day in their entirity, sooner rather than later. The third disc is a DVD Audio of the show, amazingly fitted onto a single DVDR, which is a tremendous technological achievement. (Jules McTrainspotter Jan 07)
